A ground-mounted photovoltaic system with a capacity of 18.63 MWp was implemented for the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) in Riedau, Upper Austria. Modules were installed on approximately 18 hectares, generating nearly 20 GWh of clean electricity annually. The energy was fed directly into the railway power grid via a substation and used to power the trains.
The dual use of the land is particularly noteworthy: in addition to energy production, it also serves as a chicken run – a successful example of combining sustainable energy generation with agricultural use.
